Eden By The Numbers

Eden turned 16 months old today. We had a well-baby visit to the pediatrician where she was measured and vaccinated. The appointment ended up being quite long (hour and a half), so she crashed in the car on the drive home. I hope she takes a long nap. She's been fighting a cold, and I think this morning really wore her out.

Here are her numbers:
Weight: 18 lbs, 10 oz --> 1st percentile
Height: 30 3/4 inches --> 49th percentile
Head Circumference: 18 1/2 inches --> 47th percentile
3 shots
1 partially blocked tear duct
1 heart murmur

So.

My doctor isn't worried - about any of it. Apart from her birth (8 lbs, 13 oz people!), she's always been small. He said she's clearly developing at or beyond her age across the board, and I have to agree. And while she's petite and light-as-a-feather, I wouldn't call her skinny. He doesn't want to "fatten her up artificially" and while I'd love to see her climb that chart, I think he's right. It still sometimes feels like I have the world's smallest (non-preemie) baby though. Just to be sure and to guarantee that we've covered all of our bases, he wants to get some blood from Eden to check for lead levels. I will do anything for reassurance that she's healthy and okay, but I'm d.r.e.a.d.i.n.g. that appointment.

The tear duct thing has been a problem her whole life. Her right eye is almost constantly watering and is very often red and gunky. Our pediatrician hoped that the problem would go away on its own by her first birthday - as many partially blocked tear ducts do apparently? At this point though, he's suggesting that maybe we should go ahead and get an opinion from an eye doctor. He thinks we'll probably get a recommendation for surgery to manually open the duct. However, while the surgery is simple, it requires general anesthesia - which is not something he's in a hurry to recommend or endorse for Eden, and we definitely understand that. Thus, we'll move forward with getting another opinion and just take it one step at a time.

And lastly, the heart murmur. Apparently, they're relatively common in children. They can come and go. And they're often harmless. He still wants her to come back in two weeks so that he can check it again.

So.

Oh hey! I just remembered a number that I forgot to add to the above list:

1 really bad case of bedhead

The hair is starting to look red or maybe it's just the way the camera picked up the lighting. She looks wonderful even with the bedhead issue. Gramma loves it anyway.
